At Flowering Phoenix, we make all of our candles and wax melts to order with three primary ingredients: all-natural beeswax, organic coconut oil, and phthalate-free fragrance oil. During production, we hand-pour each product with love and add all finishing touches, including labels, lids, and packaging.

Why All-Natural Beeswax?

Bees produce beeswax to make honeycomb for two primary purposes: to store honey, and to house eggs and larvae. Over time though, old beeswax can accumulate dirt and germs, which can have major negative effects on the health of the bee colony.

In these scenarios, humans can help bees by harvesting old wax, which allows the bees to make new clean and disease-free wax!

One of the most common uses for beeswax is candle-making. Beeswax is optimal for candles and wax melts for two main reasons:

• It burns clean without smoke, which means it doesn't contribute to air pollution the way other waxes do

• It releases negative ions when burned, therefore helping to purify the surrounding air

On top of the direct benefits of using beeswax for candles, there are several indirect benefits, too.

For example, the industrial manufacture of soy wax and paraffin wax contributes to the widespread destruction of natural environments and chemical pollution. Using beeswax solves many of these problems by reducing the production and consumption of products that harm the environment.

Why Organic, Unrefined Coconut Oil?

When used in candle-making, coconut oil works synergistically with beeswax to provide a smoother and more even texture and an even lower burn point. Plus, the combination smells great!

Organic coconuts are grown and harvested sustainably without the use of toxic pesticides or fertilizers, resulting in a more environmentally friendly life cycle and a healthier end product.

When compared to refined coconut oil, unrefined coconut oil is better for you and for the environment. The production of refined coconut oil typically involves the use of unsanitary drying practices, as well as chemical bleaching and deodorizing. Since we use only unrefined coconut oil, our products retain all the goodness of natural coconut oil with none of the "bad stuff" that comes with mass manufacturing processes.

By combining all-natural beeswax and organic, unrefined coconut oil together, we are able to make candles that burn cleaner for a longer time, and have the additional benefits of being sustainable, renewable, non-toxic, and environmentally friendly!

Why Phthalate-Free Fragrance Oil?

Phthalates are complex chemicals used for a wide variety of purposes, including as a dissolving agent for processing and as a binding agent in plastic-making. Many of these chemicals are known carcinogens, and in tests, have been proven to cause irritation to skin, disrupt  endocrine systems, and even reduce fertility.

In an effort to create a superior product, we only use fragrances that are free of phthalates. While this increases our research and testing time for new fragrances, we think the end result is worth it: products that are safe for you, your family, and your home!
